Jessica Ball Honoured by Colleagues

Tuesday Apr 7, 2009

Jessica Ball, co-leader of FIRA's Indigenous Fathers Research Cluster, is a recipient of one of two 2009 Distinguished Academics Awards from the Confederation of University Faculty Associations of British Columbia (CUFA BC).

Each year CUFA BC presents these awards to recognize faculty members at BC's public universities whose research and scholarly work make contributions to the wider community. Dr. Ball, professor of Child and Youth Care at the University of Victoria, was named Academic of the Year for combination of academic excellence and community engagement exemplified by FIRA's Indigenous Fathers project. Working with Ron George and fathers and practitioners in five communities, the Indigenous Fathers cluster not only helped to develop greater understandings of issues faced by Aboriginal fathers, it also produced excellent resources to help communties support Indigenous men on their parenting journeys.

Dr. Ball was also honoured recently with the University of Victoria's 2009 Craigdarroch Award for Research Communication.
