Toronto-area Families Needed for Research
Tuesday Mar 9, 2010
The Milton and Ethel Harris Research Institute at York University is looking for families from the greater Toronto area to participate in a research study focused on children's emotional development.
The researchers are looking for father/mother families where the parents live together with children between the ages of 12 months and 16 years. Families will be financially compensated for participating in this study.

John Hoffman, FIRA's Communications coordinator, is a co-investigator on this study, which will be led by Jim Stieben, director of the Neuroscience Group at the Milton and Ethel Harris Research Initiative. The study will investigate the relationship between paternal empathy and children's development of self-regulation.
Stieben and his team will use specially-designed devices called dense-array EEG electrode sensor nets to track brain activity in fathers, mothers and children as the parents watch their children play an emotion inducing computer game. This is an extension and further development of Stieben's previous research involving mothers and children. The new study will be the first time fathers have been included in these procedures.
